BUSINESS IMMIGRANTS

Business immigration to Canada was conceived as a means of promoting economic development and employment in Canada by attracting people for immigration to Canada with venture capital, business acumen and entrepreneurial skills, who can invest in, start, or buy enterprises in Canada and are expected to support the development of a strong and prosperous Canadian economy.

To support the development of a strong and prosperous Canadian economy, Canada welcomes three classes of business immigrants: investors, entrepreneurs and self-employed persons.

Investors

The Immigrant Investor Program (also known as the Investor Category of the Business Class) seeks to attract experienced business persons and capital to Canada. This category is ideal for those who want to immigrate to Canada but who do not wish to be obligated to engage in any type of business/employment activity upon their arrival. Investors must demonstrate business experience and a legally obtained minimum net worth of CAN $800,000, and must make an investment of CAN $400,000.

Entrepreneurs

The Entrepreneur Program seeks to attract experienced business persons that will own and actively manage businesses in Canada that will contribute to the economy and create jobs. Entrepreneurs must demonstrate business experience and a minimum legally obtained net worth of CAN $300,000, and are subject to conditions upon arrival in Canada.

Self-Employed Persons

Self-employed persons must have the intention and ability to create their own employment and make a significant contribution to the cultural, artistic or athletic life of Canada, or, to create their own employment by purchasing and managing a farm in Canada.

Selection criteria

To be eligible for selection as business immigrants, applicants must first meet the definition of the class under which they are applying (investor, entrepreneur or self-employed person). Applicants are then assessed against five selection criteria and must obtain a minimum of 35 points.
